Humped Orb-weaver Socca australis Framenau & Castanheira, 2021
Fauna Portal species: 11235Diagnosis
(after Framenau et al. 2022): Socca australis seems to be most closely related to S. caiguna, and both may also be confused with Socca eugeni but they differ from the latter distinctly by the much wider central division of the epigyne. Socca australis can be distinguished from S. caiguna by the longer length of the epigyne scape. In addition, the scape was not broken off in any S. australis examined, but in most S. caiguna. Socca australis lacks the distinct, shallow U-shaped posterior border of S. caiguna that is exposed there when the scape is broken off. These differences between the species are consistent in all females examined. Males are unknown.

Fauna Portal Records
The map shows all records that have been verified as part of the Fauna Portal project and may not represent the true distribution of a species. Specifically, for described species, check the link to the Atlas of Living Australia on this page for potential wider distributions. Fauna Portal Reference specimens and Linnean types are shown in red. If you identified a specimen that exceeds the distribution of an undescribed species as illustrated here, please contact the Fauna Portal team who can assist with the lodgement of the specimen in a public institution and display on the map.
