Novakiella
(after Framenau et al. 2021): Novakiella differs from the other araneid genera by overall somatic morphology. The abdomen is subtriangular with strong humeral humps, while it is more rounded with small humerals in Backobourkia and Hortophora, slightly elongated in Plebs and strongly elongated in Lariniophora. Males can be differentiated by the presence of a tibial apico-ventral spur carrying a thick spine (although similar spines are present in some Hortophora species, such as H. megacantha and H. yesabah). Carepalxis also have a spur on leg II, but it carries two spines. There are distinct differences in the male pedipalp morphology between Novakiella and other Australian orb-weavers. Novakiella males have a stout median apophysis that is drawn out into a basally pointing acute projection, not present in any other genus. The basal projection of the conductor is heavily enlarged.
