Genus 3340 (the 'Araneus' speculabundus group) is somatically and based on genital morphology most similar to Neoscona, but differs in details of the genitalia. The male median apophysis has a larger terminal apophysis and the median apophysis is comparatively larger. The female epigyne does not have the typical tongue-shaped scape as Neoscona has.
There is currenly only a single species known in the speculabundus group and it may eventually turn out to be a derived Neoscona.
