Oecobius is the only genus in the family Oecobiidae in Australia.
Wall Spiders
Oecobiidae Blackwall, 1862
Type genus: Oecobius Lucas, 1842
(after Framenau et al. 2014): The distinguishing feature of the Wall Spiders (family Oecobiidae) is a large two-jointed anal tubercle above the spinnerets which is fringed with two conspicuous rows of stout, curved bristles. However, it is not necessary to rely on this microscopic character to identify members of this family — oecobiids are very small spiders— as their overall appearance is very distinctive. The carapace is wider than long, with a protruding frontal tip and the eyes are situated towards the centre away from the frontal margin. The eyes are in a tight group but only the anterior median eyes and the posterior lateral eyes appear fully developed, all others are narrower and indistinct.
