Kangaraneus
Fauna Portal Genus Number: 3367
(after Castanheira & Framenau 2023): Within the backobourkiines, male genitalia of Kangaraneus are most similar to those of Quokkaraneus, due to a similar C-shaped median apophysis with a drawn out acute tip and the conductor having a basal protrusion. However, Kangaraneus males differ distinctly in the presence of prominent humeral humps of the abdomen (lacking in Quokkaraneus) and the lack of the white colouration on carapace and legs. Females of Kangaraneus differ from those of Quokkaraneus in the somatic characters as described for males above, but also in the general shape of the epigyne scape, which is heavily inflated basally in Quokkaraneus, but not so in Kangaraneus. Due to the prominent humeral humps on the abdomen, Kangaraneus species are somatically similar to species in Novakiella, but have a vastly different genital morphology; specifically the male pedipalp lacks the heavily enlarged conductor lobe of Novakiella.
