Head region only slightly elevated; posterior spiracles present. Six or four eyes present, sometimes reduced to indistinct spots (or completely blind in troglobitic species); posterior median eyes usually absent; when present, adjacent, far removed from lateral eyes.
Dwarf Orb-weavers
Symphytognathidae
(after Framenau et al. 2014): Dwarf Orb-weaving Spiders (family Symphytognathidae) are tiny spiders of around 1 mm length with some unusual characters, in particular the reduction or lack of female pedipalps, the lack of booklungs (being so small these spiders appear to be able to breathe through their cuticle and trachae) and fused chelicerae. The family was originally described from Australia based on spiders collected in Tasmania; however, Dwarf Orb-weaving Spiders are now known from the tropical, subtropical and southern temperate regions around the world.
