Arachnura
Few orb-weaving spiders are as distinct as the Scorpion-tailed Spiders, genus Arachnura. Females have a highly elongated abdomen with the spinnerets situated about half-way ventrally. The posterior part, the ‘tail’, is generally slender and at its end adorned with small tubercles or processes. In resting position, the spiders appear to mimic a leaf, but when disturbed they often move their ‘tail’ over their body in a behaviour reminiscent of that of a scorpion. Males are much smaller than females and their abdomen appears posteriorly squashed (Castanheira et al. 2019).
