(after Framenau & Vink 2001): Venatrix mckayi is similar to V. funesta, V. penola, V. australiensis and V. roo. However, the carapace width is distinctively smaller than that of V. funesta (pooled t = 3.392, d.f. = 40, P = 0.001), V. australiensis (pooled t = 7.241, d.f. = 36, P = 0.000) and V. roo (pooled t = –5.085, d.f. = 59, P = 0.000). Males can also be distinguished by the tegular apophysis of the male pedipalp, which has an axe-shaped ventral process. In females, the median septum of the epigyne between median and posterior transvers part is comparatively shorter than in any of the other above species.
