(after Framenau & Castanheira 2022): Males of S. canalae share with S. tartara two patellar setae on the pedipalp. However, S. canalae is distinguished by the less prominent pedipalp conductor. Female genitalia are most similar to those of S. brisbanae, but differ from those and other Salsa species by the epigyne scape, that is longer than the epigyne plate and exceeds its posterior margin.
