Western Plebs Plebs cyphoxis (Simon, 1908)
Fauna Portal species: 4295Diagnosis
(after Joseph & Framenau 2012): Male Plebs cyphoxis can be distinguished from all other Plebs species by the shape of the basal arch of median apophysis of the male pedipalp, the wall of which is comparatively thick, i.e. as thick as the inner diameter of the arch, whereas the wall of the arch is much thinner than the inner diameter of the arch in all other species. Females of P. cyphoxis bear similarity to those of P. rosemaryae with regard to the epigyne as the scape is convoluted at the base; however, the scape of P. cyphoxis can have single or multiple convolutions at the base, in contrast to the single curve found in P. rosemaryae. In addition, the scape of P. cyphoxis has a wrinkled texture along its entire length and tapers gradually towards the distal end, whereas in P. rosemaryae, the scape is generally smooth in appearance and tapers rather abruptly towards the distal end.

Fauna Portal Records
The map shows all records that have been verified as part of the Fauna Portal project and may not represent the true distribution of a species. Specifically, for described species, check the link to the Atlas of Living Australia on this page for potential wider distributions. Fauna Portal Reference specimens and Linnean types are shown in red. If you identified a specimen that exceeds the distribution of an undescribed species as illustrated here, please contact the Fauna Portal team who can assist with the lodgement of the specimen in a public institution and display on the map.
