Lake Lefroy Wolf Spider Artoria retorta Prado, Baptista & Framenau, 2024
Fauna Portal species: 6149Diagnosis
(after Prado et al. 2024): Artoria retorta is similar to A.falcata in male and female genital morphology. Males of both species share a pedipalp with a sinuous tegular apophysis curved retrolaterally and with its acute apex projecting ventrally, but that of A. retorta has a spiniform prong at its retrolateral margin (absent in A. falcata) and an apex tapering abruptly in retrolateral view (vs tapering gradually in A. falcata). The terminal apophysis has a broad gutter (vs as a thin stalk in A. falcata). Females of both species have epigynes with long lateral lobes and guide pockets anteriorly and a subrectangular median septum with an elevated triangular area bearing a longitudinal notch, but A. retorta differs by having deeper and more sclerotized guide pockets and the triangular elevated notched area of median septum stretches the entire atrium (vs restricted to the posterior half of the atrium in A. falcata).

Fauna Portal Records
The map shows all records that have been verified as part of the Fauna Portal project and may not represent the true distribution of a species. Specifically, for described species, check the link to the Atlas of Living Australia on this page for potential wider distributions. Fauna Portal Reference specimens and Linnean types are shown in red. If you identified a specimen that exceeds the distribution of an undescribed species as illustrated here, please contact the Fauna Portal team who can assist with the lodgement of the specimen in a public institution and display on the map.
