(after Framenau et al. 2006): Hogna kuyani can be distinguished from H. crispipes and H. diyari by its uniform, dark reddish-brown carapace coloration with a dense cover of silver-grey setae and the absence of median or submarginal bands. The median septum of the female epigynum is comparatively longer than that of the other two Hogna species.
