(after Langlands & Framenau 2010): Males of Hoggicosa duracki can be distinguished from the similarly coloured H. snelli by a very short terminal apophysis and a large tegular apophysis, which has a ventral process with a bifurcate tip. Both sexes can be distinguished from H. snelli by the plain cream venter which lacks the black stripe of H. snelli.
