Theridion mortuale females have a unique epigyne with a fairly wide atrium. The posterior sclerotised part has a waved anterior edge. Most similar are probably females of Cryptachaea FP-6385, but the epigyne of these females is narrower. The male of Theridion mortuale has a unique cymbium with a blade-like tip.
The species is here included in Cryptachaea as it is most similar to the described species of that genus. It is clearly not a Theridion as it lacks the theridiid tegular apophysis.
Dupérré (2023) illustrated the female syntype of this species from the Zoological Museum Hamburg.
