Large Grey Pilbara Slater
Buddelundia
FP-11799 (SJ 16)
Discoverer: S. Judd (2023)
Fauna Portal species: 11799Diagnosis
Very large animal, greyish-white in colour and sometimes with a brownish tinge as shown in photograph. Frontal shield divided into upper and lower sections by a transverse groove. Posterior margin of frontal shield well defined and slightly raised from vertex of head. Interlocking structures on pereonite 1 and 2 as in Figs 6841 and 6842. Lateral posterior border of pereonite 1 only slightly angled backward, almost straight in lateral view. Distal margin of pereonite 1 thickened without sulcus arcuatus. Pereonite 2 with acute tooth-like lobe and well-developed structures on ventral side of pereonites 6 and 7 (see photograph).
This species is very similar to Buddelundia FP-11811 (SJ 63) and can be determined by differences in the interlocking structures on the pereonites.
Most specimens of this species have been identified morphologically. The current distribution shows two distinct populations. COI sequences are currently only from the western populations of this species and pending a molecular characterisation of the eastern population, that may turn out to be a different, cryptic species.

Fauna Portal Records
The map shows all records that have been verified as part of the Fauna Portal project and may not represent the true distribution of a species. Specifically, for described species, check the link to the Atlas of Living Australia on this page for potential wider distributions. Fauna Portal Reference specimens and Linnean types are shown in red. If you identified a specimen that exceeds the distribution of an undescribed species as illustrated here, please contact the Fauna Portal team who can assist with the lodgement of the specimen in a public institution and display on the map.
