Scaly Pilbara Red Slater
Buddelundia
FP-11796 (SJ 15MD)
Discoverer: S. Judd (2023)
Fauna Portal species: 11796Diagnosis
Animal dark reddish brown in colour and covered with small but conspicuous setae. Frontal shield divided into upper and lower sections by a transverse groove. Interlocking structures on pereonite 1 and 2 as in Figs 6821 and 6822,. Posterior margin of frontal shield well defined and slightly raised from vertex of head. Pereonite 1 with epimera border angled only slightly backward with inner lobe of schisma longer than epimera border in lateral view. Posterior lateral corner of pereonal epimera 1 produced with a kink at junction with thickened lateral margin of epimera 1. Pereonite 2 with acute tooth-like lobe and well-developed grooved bumps on ventral side of pereonites 6 and 7.
Terrestrial isopods of this type are found in the Pilbara region and are relatively common and widespread there. There are likely numerous species. The morphological work required to determine species is at a preliminary stage and consequently this species can only be diagnosed by molecular methods (COI barcoding).

Fauna Portal Records
The map shows all records that have been verified as part of the Fauna Portal project and may not represent the true distribution of a species. Specifically, for described species, check the link to the Atlas of Living Australia on this page for potential wider distributions. Fauna Portal Reference specimens and Linnean types are shown in red. If you identified a specimen that exceeds the distribution of an undescribed species as illustrated here, please contact the Fauna Portal team who can assist with the lodgement of the specimen in a public institution and display on the map.
