Creeping slater
Cubaris Brandt, 1833
Type species: Cubaris murina Brandt, 1833
Fauna Portal Genus Number: 3373
(after Green 1961): Frontal shield simple and without modification of any kind and often raised from vertex of head. Pereonal epimera 1 without schisma. Lobe on under-surface of pereonal epimeron 1 small, not visible in lateral view and well separated from lateral border. Pereonal epimeron 1 without ventral groove (sulcusmarginali). Pleopods occupy more than one-third width of pleon. Telson either constricted medially or not constricted, dorsal surface without keel and the posterior border is bluntly rounded. Exopodites of pleopods not interlocking or interconnected, all with pleopodal lungs. Uropod protopods longer than wide and with exopodite inserted on dorsal surface close to, but removed from, inner border.
Schmalfuss (1983) recognised Cubaris as a heterogeneous group defined by symplesiomorphic characters. Species of this group are very rare in Western Australia and cannot yet be identified morphologically. Species illustrated here require identification with molecular data (i.e. COI barcoding).
