Elongated White-tailed Spiders
Lamponina Strand, 1913
Type species: Lampona scutata Strand, 1913
Fauna Portal Genus Number: 605
(after Platnick 2000): The fusion of the sternum with the epimeric sclerites separates specimens of Lamponina from those of all lamponine genera other than Lamponega, Lamponusa, and Lamponicta. The presence of a divided scopula on metatarsi and tarsi I and II, a rugose sternal surface, and the typical form of the retrolateral tibial apophysis and epigynum all separate Lamponina specimens from those of the other three genera with fused sterna and epimeric sclerites.
Platnick (2000) revised the genus to include six species, but it appears that Lamponina is much more diverse with many more species recognised on the Fauna Portal. Colouration of the abdomen and legs helps to differentiate many of the species in addition to genital morphology.
