Neat Comb-footed Spider Nihonhimea mundula (L. Koch, 1872)
Fauna Portal species: 9306Diagnosis
Nihonhimea mundula is easily distinguished from other comb-footed spiders by the distinct abdominal colouration.
Nihonhimea tesselata has been reported from Australia, but these may be misidentifications of N. mundula. Illustrations of N. tesselata by Levi (1959) do not the posterior broad rim of the female epigyne. Nihonhimea mundula has here been identified based on Chrysanthus (1963) who studied the holotype of N. mundula; curiously, he considered N. mundula and N. tesselata the same species in which case N. mundula has priority.

Fauna Portal Records
The map shows all records that have been verified as part of the Fauna Portal project and may not represent the true distribution of a species. Specifically, for described species, check the link to the Atlas of Living Australia on this page for potential wider distributions. Fauna Portal Reference specimens and Linnean types are shown in red. If you identified a specimen that exceeds the distribution of an undescribed species as illustrated here, please contact the Fauna Portal team who can assist with the lodgement of the specimen in a public institution and display on the map.
