The male pedipalp of S. octonotata is most similar to that of S. grossa, as the embolus in both species does not form a full circle, but it is much slimmer that that of S. grossa. In addition, the abdominal colouration is also much different to that of S. grossa. The epigyne of S. octonotata with its broadly U-shaped anterior edge is unique in the Australian species on the Fauna Portal.
