House Spiders and allies
Desidae
(after Framenau et al. 2014): There are considerable difficulties in delineating family limits within a large group of spiders currently referred to the superfamily Amauribioidea, which includes the Australian Desidae as well as the Stiphidiidae, Amphinectidae, Agelenidae and Amaurobiidae. The fact that generally no single colloquial name exists for any of these families reflects the diversity of spiders within each of these families and the uncertainty if the respective included genera represent a group of evolutionary related species. The Desidae, which includes the House Spiders (genus Badumna), Social Spider (genus Phryganoporus), but also the Intertidal Spiders (genus Desis), are a good example. It is very difficult to characterise the Desidae morphologically. Often, the inclusion of genera in the Desidae (or any other of the above-mentioned families) must be taken more as an opinion of the scientist who worked on the group at a time than rigorous phylogenetic analysis.
