Welsh Orb-weaver Hortophora walesiana (Karsch, 1878)

Fauna Portal species: 154
Family: Araneidae

Diagnosis

(after Framenau et al. 2021): Males of H. walesiana are most similar to those of H. lodicula due to the comparatively short median apophysis of the pedipalp that terminates in an apically pointing lobe. However, the terminal apophysis of H. walesiana  is large and bubble-shaped, but inconspicuous in H. lodicula . The strong, curved lateral borders of the epigyne of female of H. walesiana  are somewhat similar to those of H. porongurup.
