Diagnosis

(after Beatty & Berry 1989): Male: Pedipalp with slender erect tibial apophysis of medium length , as in P. insulana and P. rangiroa. Distinguished from P. insulana by its broader cymbium and pedipalp bulb, from P. rangiroa by the more anteriorly directed tibia l apophysis and the shape of the conductor tip. Female: With narrow oblique epigynal depressions, as in P. insulana and P. rangiroa. Distinguished from P. insulana by a reduction of the anterolateral hoods of the epigynal depressions.

Paratheuma australis is currently the only described species of Paratheuma in Australia.
