Ellen's Trapdoor Spider Aname ellenae Harvey, Framenau, Wojcieszek, Rix & Harvey, 2012

Fauna Portal species: 6346
Family: Anamidae

Diagnosis

(after Harvey et al. 2012): Males of Aname ellenae resemble A. barrema, A. distincta, A. inimica and A. marae in the shape of the bulb which gradually tapers to the embolus. The shape and proportions of metatarsus I and tibia I of A. ellenae differ from these species: metatarsus I is much stouter in A. barrema (3.8 x longer than deep), A. distincta (ca. 3.2 x) and A. inimica (ca. 3.0 x) than in A. ellenae (ca. 4.2 x) and the base of the tibial spur arises abruptly in A. barrema, A. distincta and A. inimica but arises gently in A. ellenae and A. marae. Aname ellenae differs from A. marae in details of the pedipalp: the embolus of A. ellenae is much less curved and almost circular in cross-section; in contrast, the embolus base of A. marae is broadly flattened. In addition, the pedipalpal tibia has a patch of short strong setae retrolaterally in A. ellenae, which is absent in A. marae. Females of A. ellenae are unknown.

Fauna Portal Records

The map shows all records that have been verified as part of the Fauna Portal project and may not represent the true distribution of a species. Specifically, for described species, check the link to the Atlas of Living Australia on this page for potential wider distributions. Fauna Portal Reference specimens and Linnean types are shown in red. If you identified a specimen that exceeds the distribution of an undescribed species as illustrated here, please contact the Fauna Portal team who can assist with the lodgement of the specimen in a public institution and display on the map.
