Brush-footed Trapdoor Spider
Synothele
FP-11241
Discoverer: V.W. Framenau (2021)
Fauna Portal species: 11241
Order: Araneae (Spiders)
Family: Barychelidae
Diagnosis
Synothele FP-11241 belongs to the 'butleri-group' due to the strong apico-prolateral megaspine on the tibia of leg I in males; however, this species differs distinctly from S. butleri and other related species by the pedipalp bulb morphology. The bulb is fairly short in this species. Synothele FP-11241 also has distinct dark bands on the underside of the abdomen, which may be species-specific, but only a single specimen is currently available and judging intra-specific variation is therefore not possible.
