Hogna
Fauna Portal Genus Number: 563
Three Australian species have recently been included in the genus Hogna based mainly on genital morphology (Framenau et al. 2006). The male tegular apophysis is a simple triangle and the female epigyne inverted T-shaped. However, it is unlikely that they truely belong to this genus, which was originally described from the Mediterranean. The genus Hogna currently includes many species with similar genitalia world-wide at is in need of revision. We here maintain these species in Hogna pending a review of Hogna-like species in Australia.
