Conothele
Conothele is easily distinguished from other Australian mygalomorph spiders by a saddle-like, sometimes darker depression on the tibia of leg III. The carapace often has a roundish appearance and the central part of the head region is convex. It is often shiny and armed with few setae.
Only two species are currently described from Australia, but a molecular study of Western Australian species identified more then 50 operational taxonomic units that may represent diffferent species. Characters useful for species identification in males include eye group shape, abdominal setation, carapace and sternum shape, pedipalpal tibia shape, and tarsus I shape (Huey et al. 2019).
