The presence of a median frontal carina is the principle diagnostic character of the genus.
Planthoppers
Meenoplidae Fieber, 1872
Type genus: Meenoplus Fieber, 1866
(after Fletcher 2009): The family is most easily recognised in Australia by the presence of heavy granulations on the outer claval vein (Vein 1A). Some derbids also have granulations on this vein but these can be differentiated from Meenoplidae by the length of the apical segment of the rostrum which is about as long as wide in derbids but much longer than wide in other fulgoroid families.
