Leafhoppers

Amrasca differs from Austroasca in that only two apical veins, Cu1a and M3+4 arise from cell M, whereas in Austroasca, all apical veins incl. R1b arise from cell M.

Small delicate leafhoppers 2.5–4 mm long. Vertex longer medially than against eyes, medially roundly angulate or convex with coronal suture present over basal half.

This group includes all species in the tribe Athysanini that cannot be referred to a genus.

Differs from Hishimonus by the absence of the distinctive circular or diamond-shaped brown marking dorsally in the centre of the folded tegmina of species of Austrimonus.

The insect described below has been compared with Huropean and American species of Agallia Curtis, Agalliopsis Kirk., and Aceratoagallia Kirk., and found to differ in the shape of the
head, distance between the ocelli, and dorsal thoracic segments.

The crown is always wide relative to the distance between its anterior and posterior margins; it is broadly, roundedly produced, the extent of the production never being great; male and female genitalia heavily bristled, ensiform bristles being always present and obvious. Dorsal hooks either vestigial or absent.

Lack of hind wings, reduced forewings, male genitalia with ventral extensions of the anal segment associated with the aedeagus and the medially angled aedeagus.
