Minute Marsh-loving Beetles

Limnichidae Erichson, 1846

Type genus: Lichminus Casey, 1889

(after Hangay & Zborowski 2010): Limnichids have convex, oval-shaped bodies and can be 1-5mm in length. They are often black in colour with short, grey to yellow pubescence, although some are glabrous. The head is strongly deflexed and fits into the thoracic depression. The clypeus is large and is separated by a distinct clypeal suture. The pronotum is posteriorly lobed. Antennae are slender with 11 segments and can be filiform or end in a 3-4 segmented club. The legs are short and thin and fit into depressions on the ventral side of the body. Tarsi on the legs are without lobes and are usually 5-segmented.
