Click Beetles
Elateridae Leach, 1815
Type genus: Elater Linnaeus, 1758
(after Hangay & Zborowski 2010): Elaterids have bodies that are generally elongate and narrow, with elytra tapering towards the tip. They range in length from 3-55mm in length. The prothorax loosely joins the mesothorax, has sharp hind angles, and can be moved individually. The prosternum is anteriorly elongated and posteriorly has an elongated process that fits into a cavity in the mesosternum. The front coxae are globular with well developed hind coxal plates. The head usually possesses a sharp transversal ridge between the eyes, the labrum is visible, and antennae (usually serrated, never clubbed) are placed close to the eyes along the anterior margin of the head.
