Females of D. notacantha are most similar to those of D. peltata based on the similar epigyne morphology. Dolophones notacantha has a trapezoid epigyne with an anteriorly convex atrium and a wider scape that is more elevated at its base (vs. epigyne tulip-shaped with atrium more flattened anteriorly and scape narrower and less elevated at its base in D. peltata). Males of D. notacantha are most similar to those of D. pseudonotacantha due to their similar pedipalp morphology. The tegular lobe is shorter in D. notacantha and the terminal apophysis is thumb-like (vs. pedipalp with a massive triangular tegular lobe, terminal apophysis more inflated with a shorter tip and conductor oval in D. pseudonotacantha).
