Genus 3339 (albotriangulus gp)

Species of Genus 3339 (the 'Araneus' albotriangulus group) are small orb-weaving spiders with a characteristic white triangle on the abdomen, which is often reduced, specifically in males. The male pedipalp has a heavily sclerotised apical portion (possibly the terminal apophysis), the shape of which is species-specific. The median apophysis is reduced and the embolus prominent and very long and curved. The epigyne is of a characteristic 'nose-shape'. There are probably about five species in Australia which require genitalic examination for species-level identification.

The albotriangulus group requires further taxonomic work and a re-examination of material to finalise their taxonomy as species are very similar.
