Variegated Mud-Loving Beetles
Heteroceridae MacLeay, 1825
(after Hangay & Zborowski 2010): Body elongate, somewhat flattened and densely pubescent. Generally 2-5mm in length, dark in colour, with lighter markings on the elytra. Head prognathous, with mandibles and large labrum visible from above. Antennae short, with a serrated 7-segmented club. Tibiae flattened with long, thin spines on the outer and apical sides. Tarsal formula 4-4-4, without lobes.
