Dampetrus
(after Shear 2001) The genus Dampetrus is endemic to Australia, but some of the many New Guinea genera (as well as all but one of the other Australian assamiid genera named by Roewer - Euwintonius, Dampetrellus, Eudampetrus, Cardwella, Octobunus, Anjolus) are likely synonyms. The genus has not been diagnosed with modern taxonomic methods against the only other likely valid genus of the Assamiidae in Australia, Metamermeris.
There has been no modern revision of Australian Dampetrus and most undescribed species on the Fauna Portal have been diagnosed by molecular methods.
