On Barrow Island, this species is diagnosed by the distinctly raised 'saddle' surrounding the spiracles, a diagnostic character of Thereuopoda.
This may be the only described species in the genus in Australia, Thereuopoda longicornis, pending a revision using morphological and molecular tools.
