Diagnosis

(after Distant 1911): Differs from Melanacanthum margineguttatus by the less spotted convexivum, different coloured markings throughout and the less distinctly raised and wrinkled posterior edge of the pronotum.

Females of this species have a less distinct lateral light band and comparatively slimmer hind coxae. On Barrow Island, all females also have a white edge anteriorly on the fore wing.
