Pelicinus saaristoi was described in 2008 by Ricardo Ott and Mark Harvey. It is one of three species in the genus Pelicinus on the Fauna Portal, all reported from Barrow Island. This species was the 800th spider species uploaded to the Fauna Portal in February 2024.
